Zugdidi will have a modern Agricultural Research Center
The Signing Ceremony was held for three projects in the Embassy of Japan in Georgia. One of the projects is being implemented in Zugdidi. Within the framework of the project, a modern research center will be funded in Zugdidi, through which local farmers will be able to carry out laboratory research, thereby increasing their competitiveness and the quality and management standard of food safety. The project "Agro House" won.
The projects are funded within the GGP Grassroots Human Security Grant Program of the Embassy of Japan and aim to contribute to the development of environmental protection, access to healthcare, strengthening the emergency response capacity in Georgia and supporting overall sustainable development. The three projects are: Zugdidi,Tusheti and Ambrolauri.
The Signing Ceremony was attended by the State Representative of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Alexander Motserelia, Deputy Meyor of Zugdidi municipality Giga Pharulava, Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Mr. Tadaharu Uehara, high-level representatives of the government of Georgia, regional, municipal governance, and representatives of civil society.
Since the independence of Georgia, Japan has provided 176 grants within the GGP Grassroots Human Security Program, totaling over 17 million USD, in addition to other grant schemes. The GGP program aims to support human security in Georgia in the following priority fields: environment protection, agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and education. The major principles behind the GGP program are overcoming poverty, sustainable development, inclusiveness and participatory growth.
