Rehabilitated Tunnel to Mestia

First Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze, Deputy Governor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Davit Kodua, together with the department and local government representatives opened the rehabilitated tunnel at 59th kilometer of Zugdidi-Jvari-Mestia-Lasdili road.

From now on, transport to Mestia will move through the renovated tunnel. The length of the tunnel is 537 meters, and the diameter is 18.5 meters.

The existing tunnel was damaged and did not meet the requirements of transport. According to the project, the tunnel was fully rehabilitated for smooth and comfortable transportation. Namely, Arrangement of permanent tunnel pad and restoration of damaged sites; Arrangement of drainage systems and hydroizolation . Also, tunnel portal, rehabilitation of sidewalks and tunnel paving work were also carried out.

Tunnel rehabilitation project was funded from the state budget and its value amounted to 6 370 000 GEL. The works began in March 2017 and ended in August of this year. 150 people were employed at work.
