Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti and Imereti Regions work on Joint Tourism Projects

Intermunicipal and interregional tourism projects will be implemented in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti. A workshop on new touristic routes and implementation projects was held in Martvili, which was attended by Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Governor Levan Shonia and Acting Governor of Imereti Grigol Dalaqishvili.

Joint touristic projects were discussed at the meeting of Martvili and Khoni Municipalities. A working group will be created to present the results of the initial inquiries to new tourist routes and existing needs within two weeks. Together with the Governor Administration and Municipalities, the working group includes geographers, speleologists and field specialists. Priority selection is preferable to less known tourist objects.

o"We have a great tourist potential, but we do not even use a small part of it, sp it is necessary to implement municipal and regional joint projects in order to provide tourists with as many interesting locations aspossible, it should be compact and simultaneously  managed process that will allow to offer a tourist joint tours. For example, tourists who visit Prometheus Cave, Gordy's Summer Residence and Okatse Canyon have to enter the tourist sites of Martvili and surrounding municipalities and vice versa. There must be a link that will allow tourists to change and spend much money in our regions, which iitself positively affects on the local population "- stated at the Governor.

According to Levan Shonia tourists should be able to reach Taboravarchkhili tourist location from Chkhorotsku, as well as from Tsalenjikha, Martvili and Khaishi, for which the joint intermunicipal project will be implemented, including tourism infrastructure, as well as creating tourism maps, determining routes, marking, guides and training rescuers.

Mayors of Senaki, Tsalenjikha, Chkhorotsku, Martvili, Khobi Municipalities and representatives of the National Tourism Administration and Protected Areas attended the meeting.
